Course Overview

While giving concrete examples, we will analyze and inquire into various topics of modern Japanese grammar. Also, through arranging and examining in what way items of grammar are dealt with and how they are described, we will discuss effective applications, especially practical grammar instruction, in the teaching of Japanese.

Key Features

For Japanese people, Japanese is learnt unconsciously, their so-called "Mother Tongue". In other words, you could almost say it comes in the same way as air. Therefore, we could say that in daily life people don't usually go to ends to be conscious of common things. However, in the world of Japanese linguistic and Japanese Pedagogic students those normal-life things often become problematic. Realizing the various phenomena that are somehow difficult for normal Japanese people to notice is extremely important in this academic sphere.

In order to recognize such phenomena, it is necessary to learn about the efficacy of analysis and description through observing Japanese from an objective standpoint. I want students to connect with Japanese while keeping such things in mind at all times.
